Aircraft cabin approval under FAR 25.853 assigns tests by cabin application: large surfaces take the OSU heat release test with its 65/65 limits; most materials take Bunsen burner flammability; smoke density is capped in the NBS chamber; and the severe service items - seat cushions, insulation, cargo liners - face the NexGen oil burner. Airframe manufacturers add their own toxicity and material specifications on top of the regulation.
The Motis aviation set
The OSU apparatus for heat release; the NBS chamber with the aviation furnace arrangement and gas detection options; the FAA oil burner series in its four application configurations; and FTIR analysis for the manufacturer toxicity methods (the TOC713 configuration covers the BSS 7239 family). The FAR 25.853 explainer walks the matrix test by test.
