Each instrument in this family simulates a different ignition insult: an open test flame (UL 94, needle flame), a glowing overheated element (glow wire), a controlled oxygen atmosphere (oxygen index), or the material's own ignition limits (auto-ignition and flammability limits for gases). Product standards name which insult applies - the instrument follows from the standard.
