The IMO Fire Test Procedures Code routes marine materials through its parts: Part 1 non-combustibility (the ISO 1182 furnace test), Part 2 smoke and toxicity, Part 3 fire resistance for divisions, Part 5 surface flammability (spread of flame to ISO 5658-2) and the upholstery and bedding procedures of Parts 8 and 9. Flag administrations and classification societies accept test reports from recognised laboratories running these procedures.

The non-combustibility furnace covers Part 1 (the furnace's documented standards include IMO FTP Part 1). Smoke work uses the NBS chamber and FTIR analysis; surface flammability uses the ISO 5658-2 spread of flame configuration; and fire resistance work uses the ISO 834 furnace range. Name the FTP part in your inquiry and the configuration follows.
